Un Kyu Lee aka Background_Ad_1810 published his latest Micro Journal design, which is the third iteration on the original, and a semi-split one this time.

The Micro Journal V4 is a distraction-free writing device (remember the AlphaSmart?). Utilizing the ESP32 microcontroller, equipped with a screen and attached keyboard, it provides a simple yet effective tool for your writing endeavors, reminiscent of commercial alternatives.

Turn on and type immediately. Sync with Google Drive. Simple. Let your draft kept always recorded.

The author experimented with different layouts and components, starting with Raspberry Pi and a 30% mechanical keyboard, then an old phone:

The latest version comes closest to the author's ideal writing device. It powers on almost instantaneously (within 1 second) and prompts you to start writing immediately. Additionally, it offers Google Drive sync functionality, allowing seamless file synchronization with your cloud storage.

It's perfect for capturing sudden bursts of inspiration or quickly jotting down important tasks or ideas. It's a device that can be kept on your bedside table, ready to record your dreams at a moment's notice. All you need to do is find the power switch before immortalizing your weirdest dream ever in writing.
